Zecwallet Lite for Android

I'm going to focus here on the Android mobile wallet, although there is a full line of wallets for iPhone, Windows, MacOS and Linux from the same developer Aditya Kulkarni.

What is Zecwallet Lite ?

Zecwallet Lite is a fully featured Zcash light client that can send and receive fully shielded transactions.
It was first a desktop only application, but a [Zcash foundation grant](https://grants.zfnd.org/proposals/2087982385-android-and-ios-zecwallet-lite-apps) made possible the development and release of this superb cryptowallet.

What does it do ?

• Fully shielded transactions by default
• Send and receive any-length memos
• Send and receive to transparent addresses as well
• Sync to the blockchain in seconds

How to use it from scratch ?

When you start the app for the very first time, it will give you the Seed and wallet birthday.

The seed is a private combination of words that you need to backup and keep for yourself only. If you're used to cryptowallet, this is classic step.
The wallet birthday is actually the zcash block number corresponding to your wallet creation time. It is a useful (but not critical information) that is used to speed up the recovery of your wallet funds from the seed.

Once you're all set, you start with an empty wallet.

Receiving $ZEC

The receive button defaults to a QR code of your shielded address. This is the bread and butter of Zcash !

Optionally, a transparent address is also generated if your peer doesn't support shielded addresses. Remember : transparent addresses are NOT private!

Sending $ZEC

Sending $ZEC is very easy, with an integrated QR code scanner that can read from your phone camera.

Once you are ready, the wallet ask you for confirmation before computing and sending the transaction

My opinion

This wallet is very slick, well rounded and was the 1st one to support fully shielded addresses.

I can only point to some improvement that you should be made aware of :

• you can't rotate transparent addresses if you intend to use them only once
• this wallet automatically tries to perform transparent to shielded transactions (a.k.a. t2z), which can be problematic in some scenarios
• shielded transactions computations takes a bit of time on a Pixel 3 smartphone, although I believe there are plans to speed things up
